Description

November 27, 1984: Advocate Gitobu Imanyara (left) is jailed for five years for stealing Sh.300,000 belonging to his client. “This is a great blow to the legal profession. A Resident Magistrate Miss Mary Ang’awa said when she jailed Mr. Imanyara (Left). She added: I must say it is appalling that the accused as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya should have taken advantage of his client and failed to honour his undertaking. The Attorney-General Justice Mathew Guy Muli who was in court gave an address about the attempt at reconciliation made by Mr. Imanyara last week. Miss Ang’awa said the remarks made by the Attorney General were made after the advocate was found guilty. She said the court had rejected the negotiations from the beginning as it was a felony. Mr. Imanyara said there was no concealment about the attempt to reconcile. He added that the documents produced in court were damaging to his case.
