Description

May 2, 1966: President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta signs a proclamation proroguing Parliament to allow time for the little General election. Some members of parliament lost their seats when they defected from Kanu to Oginga Odinga’s Kenya Peoples Union party hence the need for the by-elections in their respective constituencies. In this photo the President was signing the visitors’ book at Parliament Buildings during the state opening of Parliament a ceremony he presided over on February 4, 1975. Looking on right is the Speaker of-National Assembly, Mr. Fredrick Mati (Right) and the Clerk of National Assembly, Mr. Leonard Ngugi (second left).
